The Supreme Court is refusing to consider a request from Amazon and from to consider throwing out New York state's taxes on internet purchases.

Generally, web retailers don't have to charge sales taxes in states where they lack a physical presence. But the New York law applies to companies that use affiliates that refer customers to the retailer's website and collect a commission.
