Gaulrapp Announces Town Hall Meetings

It's generally considered one of the safest republican u-s congressional districts in the state. But a stateline democratic mayor is taking to the streets to try and change that.

Freeport Mayor George Gaulrapp originally said he wanted to do a town hall style debate with 9-term congressman Don Manzullo in every county in the 16th district. Gaulrapp says that hasn't worked out, so now he plans on doing the town hall style meetings solo. The two-term mayor will hold 17 meetings where he will meet an hour with village leaders before each meeting.

"It's very important that we get out and not only talk to the people, but also listen to the people.," said Gaulrapp. "Listen to their concerns, their uncertainties and their frustrations. But also listen to some solutions to the problems that we have in the 16th district, the state of Illinois and our nation."

Manzullo has won at least 55% of the vote in all 8 of his previous congressional elections, including the last 6 by at least 65% of the vote.
