Obama: Tensions with Karzai 'Simply Overstated'

Speaking at a White House news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai (HAH'-mihd KAR'-zeye), Obama said tension will always be present in a relationship as complicated and difficult as the one between the U.S. and Afghanistan.

Asked whether they discussed the tensions when they met Wednesday, Obama said "a lot of them were simply overstated."

The Obama administration in the past has criticized Karzai for tolerating corruption and drug trafficking, while Karzai has accused Washington of not giving him the support he needs to govern.

President Obama says he is commited to long-term partnership with Afghanistan beyond July 2011 troop drawdown
