Giannoulias -- the Democratic state treasurer -- raised $1.1 million in the three months ending Sept. 30 and had $2.4 million after spending $345,000.
Republican Congressman Kirk had $2.3 million after raising $1.6 million during the period. He spent $351,000.
The race is for the post formerly held by President Barack Obama.
Closest to Giannoulias among Democrats is Chicago attorney Jacob Meister (MY'-ster). He had just over $1 million -- nearly all borrowed.
Former Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman had $837,000 in the bank -- including a $500,000 loan to himself.
Chicago Urban League President Cheryle Jackson $318,000 on hand.
