U.S. Sen. Roland Burris is back in Washington, and he's slated to meet with his fellow Illinois Democrat, Sen. Dick Durbin.
It's Burris' first trip back to Washington since a furor erupted over allegations that he lied about the circumstances surrounding his appointment.
Durbin hasn't called for Burris to resign, saying he wants to talk to him in person before commenting further. Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker says the Illinois senators plan to meet Tuesday afternoon in Durbin's office in the Capitol.
Burris arrived in Washington late Monday, and a spokeswoman says he plans to attend President Barack Obama's speech on the economy to a joint session of the House and Senate.
Burris also is scheduled to attend meetings of the Senate Armed Services committee on Wednesday and Thursday.
