For the second time, voters reject a half-cent sales tax increase for a new public safety building.
The money would have allowed the Boone County Sheriff's office to expand into a new building, and free up space in the existing facility shared with Belvidere Police.
There's no word yet if another referendum is in the future.
Boone county Chairwoman Kathy Ward says she and Mayor Fred Brereton will meet with the Sheriff next week to work out other solutions to the cramped quarters.
There will also be more discussion when the new county board convenes December 1st. Four new members were elected Tuesday night.
