Ill. Backs Obama For President

CHICAGO (AP) -- Barack Obama won Illinois as he fought a historic battle to capture the White House.

The Illinois senator won the state's 21 electoral votes over Republican John McCain.

Obama needs 270 electoral votes to become the nation's first black president.

Senator Dick Durbin won, too. He earned a third term by defeating Republican Steve Sauerberg.

The calls were based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
