Today, the 23 NEWS "Operation Safer Streets" hits the streets with a special police outreach program aimed at helping fight crime in Rockford's neighborhoods.

It is called "COPS ON THE BLOCK."

Police will be at S. Court and Montague from 12 to 2 p.m. There will be giveaways, demonstrations, and all kinds of fun for the kids. Officers want to meet residents and show everyone they are here to protect.

In addition, our own Aaron Wilson will appear live from the event on the 23 News at noon. There will be six of the these "COPS ON THE BLOCK" events throughout the summer.
