Truancy at East High School

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- You asked on Facebook and we've investigated. Laurie Arnish voiced concerns about students from East leaving the closed campus during school hours to hang out at the nearby McDonald's and BP. What we found out may surprise you.

Family Video Manager Ashley Hearn said she finds students hanging out behind her business every day.

Ashley Hearn is a manager at the family video. She says throughout the day she will see East students on the property when they should be at school and virtually every owner in the block and a half between East and McDonald's shared the same stories of littering and loitering. Our cameras caught some students in the acts.

Find out what else we discovered and hear from Rockford East's principal on what's being done.

It's an Operation Safer Streets special report tonight on 23 News at 10.
