ROCKFORD (WIFR)-- Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced today that the Winnebago County Integrity Task Force completed a thorough investigation of the officer involved shooting which occurred on January 28, 2012.
The information was submitted to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and reviewed by State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato. After reviewing the evidence in the incident State’s Attorney Bruscato concluded that Rockford City Police Officer Amado Soria was justified in the use of deadly force in the incident that resulted in the death of Phillip Johnson Jr.
On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato and Deputy State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross presented the evidence from the Integrity Task Force investigation to the Grand Jury for consideration. The Grand Jury determined that Officer Soria was justified in the use of deadly force during the January 28, 2012 incident which resulted in the death of Phillip Johnson Jr.
