ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's SWAT team is getting some new start-of-the-art duds.
At Monday’s city council meeting, alderman approved the purchase of new vests for the SWAT team. The 28 vests will cost $45,000. Having the latest technology for the team means they'll be better prepared to handle intense scenarios, like hostage situations and tactical entries.
“Every year its incumbent upon our commanders, our commanding officers to review and inventory their equipment and to keep current with what's available and what's out there,” says Deputy Chief Michael Booker. “Anything that we can do to keep our officers safe as they conduct their missions and go about doing a dangerous job, we want to provide that gear and equipment for them."
The new vests should be delivered by this summer.
