Rockford Police Arrest Bike Riding Armed Robbery Suspect

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police apprehended an alleged armed robber after an investigation that began late last month.

On September 27, police responded to the 100 block of N. 1st Street, where a victim said they were approached by someone on an orange, BMX style bicycle. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's belongings.

After police conducted a follow-up investigation, charges and an arrest warrant were brought against 17-year old Robert J. Phinnessee of Rockford for Armed Robbery.

Phinnessee was taken into custody without incident in the 1000 block of School Street on September 30th shortly after 10:00pm.

Phinnessee is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

    i think that what they did was wrong but i know this person who did it and he would never harm anyone he just was making a stupid decision.!

    It doesn't surprise me. This youth started committing crime at a very young age-before 17.So sad....

    Good job catching the guy! I an envisioning the chief trying to catch the guy. What a picture that would be. By the way, Rockford is listed by Forbe's magazine as the 10th most dangerous city to live in. Thanks chief and city officials for the fine job of controlling our crime so we don't hit #1!

      @Bignugly - The Forbes article is inaccurate. That study was based on the entire surrounding area included a total population base of 358,000 people. Last I checked this city was less than half of that. I sent a letter of to the editor of Forbes telling him his story was inaccurate.

    what about his accoplis i heard it when it was called over the scanner there was 1 on the handle bars so 1 guy is still out here to do this again...
