ROCKFORD (RVC) -- Rock Valley College officials are warning all college students of a potential scam regarding financial aid.

RVC has received reports of students receiving a phone call from an individual who claims to be with the “Federal Government Grant Office.” The caller indicated that the student was pre-approved for grant dollars, but must pay a processing fee. The person also said that the student would be refunded the processing fee if for some reason the grant was not awarded.

Students would not be notified of any grants in this manner and anyone receiving such a phone call should try to note the telephone number and contact their local police jurisdiction immediately.
