UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- We now know the name of the man found dead at a home on Gladstone on Thursday.

49-year-old Michael R. Korte was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Korte and his family owned the home but did not live there.

Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia completed the autopsy. Korte died of a gunshot wound to the torso.

Toxicological tests will be available in about two weeks.

Neighbors are speculating the house was used to grow marijuana. The Rockford Police Department will not confirm or deny that the murder was drug related.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Police are investigating a homicide at 3016 Gladstone Avenue. The Winnebago County Coroner has confirmed that a 49-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to his torso on Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors say the house was vacant, but owned by a couple with two small children. They moved elsewhere a few years ago.

While police are being tight-lipped on details, State's Attorney Joe Bruscato and Coroner Sue Fiduccia both came to the scene today.

Neighbors say there were parties held at the home up to three nights a week. Others say they never saw anything happening at the home - except for when the owner came to mow the grass on Sunday nights.

Thursday morning the wife came looking for her husband but couldn't get inside the home. She allegedly went to a neighbor's house to call police. The original 911 call was for medical assistance.

Thursday night neighbors were visibly shaken. They filled the streets trying to figure out what had happened.

"This really bothers me I’m kind of really shook up right now to see crime tape around my neighbor's house and they're not letting us know what's going on," says Doris Feary.

People who live in the house right next door say they heard a loud sound on Wednesday night. They say they thought someone was trying to break into cars. When they didn't see anything they locked their doors, but didn't call police.

Police say they will have more information once the investigation is further along. The coroner could not say how many gunshot wounds the man suffered because it's now considered an ongoing homicide investigation.

Police are guarding the crime scene overnight.
