Rockford City Council Forming New Public Safety Committee

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Members of Rockford’s City Council are forming a committee focusing on our safety.

Right now, the codes and regulations committee chaired by Alderman John Beck is overseeing the new committee. The group will regularly hear updates from the police department and judges so they know exactly what law enforcement is doing to keep us safe. Alderman think with the committee in place they’ll be better informed when it comes to voting on funding for those departments.

“We as a committee have to bring this information to the full council so that they have a knowledgeable vote when they do vote because it’s the city council that votes to spend the money on police, fire, updates, improvements for the city,” said (I) 9th Ward Alderman, Teena Newburg.

This is still an informal group, but Alderman Newburg says there will probably be a resolution made over the next few weeks for it to officially form.
