FREEPORT (WIFR) – Vacant properties are causing crime and other problems in Freeport. That’s why the city is taking action. There are dozens of abandoned homes in Freeport and city leaders want to reduce the crime that plague these properties.
The Safer Housing Initiative includes implementing landlord registration and training programs and stepping up enforcement of property violations.
"All of us pretty much have come to the same conclusion and that is is that this cannot stand if we want to have viable neighborhoods and we want to have safe neighborhoods,” says Freeport Mayor, Jim Gitz.
