Cops on the Block

23 News’ Operation Safer Streets program is teaming up with the Rockford Police Department to bring you Cops on the Block. It’s an opportunity for citizens to meet the police officers who protect their streets. Families will get to see some of the latest police technology and there will be activities and snacks for the kids.

What happens at Cops on the Block? Police arrive at a neighborhood recently targeted by criminals, barricade the street -- and then the real fun begins. See what the inside of a squad car looks like. Meet officers and learn ways to make our streets safer. Cops on the Block harkens back to the days of beat cops – walking the streets, meeting neighbors and protecting our families.

Watch 23 News for the next Operation Safer Streets – Cops on the Block event. There’ll be 6 dates throughout the summer. Events will be on Wednesday from noon until 2:00pm. We’ll let you know where during Tuesday’s 23 News at 10 and Wednesday’s 23 News This Morning. 23 News will broadcast live from the Cops on the Block during 23 News at Noon.

Join 23 News and the Rockford Police Department for Operation Safer Streets – Cops on the Block this summer!

I live on a block where I see several police cars almost daily. This year alone, a person stabbed to death and left in the yard for everyone to see and someone getting their face shot off. I would love to offer them a free coffee and donuts. In fact, I'd put up a coffee shop in my yard if I could get policemen/women to stay longer! And I love donuts, too. SO WHAT?

Wow, not sure they're going to find enough cops for this, since every neighborhood is "recently targeted" for crime. There will be a block party on every single block in Rockford!

I know a ton of cops and not one likes donuts....and who doesnt like coffee?? @Steven think that is a rude comment to make when they are actually trying to do something to help neighborhoods out!!!
