LOVES PARK (WIFR) – Thanks to an observant neighbor, three teens are behind bars for stealing thousands of dollars from cars in Loves Park. Now, police are now checking to see if they could be linked to other crimes in the Rockford area.
Polly Wallace knew something was wrong early Thursday morning when she saw two people looking in her neighbor’s car windows.
“That’s when it struck me as fear because there was just something very ominous about those two, because I had only seen the two, and you just think, ‘what’s the best thing to do?”
Wallace says she immediately called 9-1-1. When police got there, officers say the teens drove off, hitting a mail box and street sign before getting out of the car and trying to run.
19-year-old Robert Dahlberg, 18-year-old Dakota Akridge, and another teen were arrested for stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of stuff from multiple vehicles, including Anthony Brackett’s truck.
“A lot of power tools, about $1,800 worth of power tools, some keys, things like that. Not bad for the second time in three months, but Loves Park has caught them both times.
Officers say they couldn’t have done it without the help of observant neighborhood watch members like Wallace.
“I like to say we’re good, but we’re not that good. We need the help. If you have to think about calling the police, just call and you never know, maybe we don’t find something but it doesn’t mean we didn’t stop something from happening.
A simple call by a neighbor that Anthony Brackett says saved him hundreds of dollars.
Winnebago County Sheriff Deputies also helped arrest the teens. They’re charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
