ROCK FALLS (WIFR) -- The Rock Falls Chamber is launching its Fall/Winter Internship Program. This program is open to college students and high school students. “It is more than your average internship,” says Bethany Bland, President/CEO of the Rock Falls Chamber. “Our interns will do more than make coffee and get copies. They will be put in charge of specific projects related to their career goals, while gaining the valuable experience of working in a business environment. Education is the future. We are living in a time when employers are concerned about the skills graduating students have as they enter the workforce. Area schools and organizations are working extremely hard to meet employers needs. Internships are one tool available to help students be better prepared. Internships are a key to helping graduating students find meaningful jobs in the future as well.” The Rock Falls Chamber not only offers an internship program to students, but it also offers to duplicate that program for any area employer who would like to work with interns.
Students who have participated in past Rock Falls Chamber Internships have maintained and designed websites, managed events, developed and hosted workshops, worked on graphic design projects, and fine-tuned the administrative skills they have been learning in school. Interns also begin to build relationships with local businesses, City Officials, and leaders in our community. For college students, the program helps potential employers see that this individual is motivated and has hands on experience. For high school students, it is an excellent opportunity to serve the community, while learning the basics of working in a business and exploring their career interests.
Scheduling is fairly flexible. Office hours are required, but some work may be completed at home or school on the intern’s own time. Students are encouraged to be creative and help develop projects and goals that meet their interests. For more information and for applications visit www.rockfallschamber.com or call 815-625-4500.
