ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Chicago-Rockford International Airport (RFD) was recently featured in Airport Business magazine in a May cover story special report titled, Rockford Gets it Right. The report detailed RFD’s impressive passenger service numbers and excellence in cargo business.
In 2012, RFD set its 2nd highest passenger traffic record and expects double-digit growth in 2013. Additionally, RFD’s load factor numbers (how full flights are) are the highest in the Great Lakes region with the majority of flights at least 89 percent full. The focus on leisure travel, with an emphasis on leisure travel amenities like free parking, volunteers to assist passengers, and excellent customer service, have helped fuel the passenger service growth.
The publication notes: “All the right ingredients – from equipment to destinations to prices and service – mix up a recipe for success at Chicago’s third airport.” Additionally, the articles highlights RFD’s strong social media presence, citing that “Rockford International Airport sets social media atwitter.”
Cargo business continues to be central to RFD’s success, and as the 25th largest cargo operation in the United States, RFD offers cargo clients quick-in, quick-out access, a 72,000 square-foot international cargo center and a 10,000 foot-long runway. RFD’s cargo operations have grown in recent years, even as other airports realized shrinking operations.
Throughout the article, building and maintaining relationships including those with airlines, leisure travelers and cargo carriers are highlighted as key factors influencing RFD’s success.
