SOUTH BELOIT (WIFR) -- A family-owned, innovative snack brand offering the only tortilla chips made with antioxidant-rich purple corn, is headed west. Mystic Harvest (www.mysticharvest.com) will hit the shelves at Bay Area Costco Warehouses just in time for the July 4th weekend.
Bay Area Costco Warehouses will offer Mystic Harvest Authentic Purple Corn Tortilla Chips with Sea Salt, the gluten-free variety of the snack line. In addition to being made with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives, the brand also touts non-GMO ingredients as well.
Costco already showed support of the purple corn tortilla chips by introducing Mystic Harvest Multi-Grain to their Midwest warehouses this spring. After a flurry of tasting demonstrations, the product sold out, leaving Costco customers wanting more. Similar demonstrations are being planned now for the Bay Area Warehouses, with the first one scheduled for Wednesday, July 3rd. Expectations are high that the chips will be a hit with consumers on the West Coast.
Gluten-free foods have exploded in popularity over the past few years. In a recent study done by Mintel Group, 51% of tortilla chip consumers consider the gluten-free attribute to be an important one. In addition, 58% of consumers prefer their tortilla chips with added benefits, like the antioxidants found naturally in Mystic Harvest.
Axium Foods, the parent company behind Mystic Harvest, is credited for creating the special process that ensures as many of the corns’ antioxidants as possible make it through to the final product.
