ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A magical tournament hopes to cast a spell and bring hundreds of tourist to the Forest City.
The Rockford Aarea Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Thursday that the upcoming International Quidditch Tournament will hold its regional championship here in the Stateline. The tourney is expected to be twice the size as the one last spring. Up to 30 college teams from across the Midwest and around 500 people are expected to be in town to play the Harry Potter inspired game. Tournament Director Luke Zak says the game has been growing in popularity every year.
"Now we have players that this is there senior year and they have been playing quidditch through their entire college career.. its catching on and were adding more and more teams across the Midwest and all around the world actually," Zak said.
The championship will be held October 26-27 at SportScore Two.
