MALTA -- Melissa Gallagher has joined the staff of the Kishwaukee College Center for Business Development and Continuing Education as the new Coordinator of Business Development. As the Coordinator of Business Development, Gallagher will work with local business and industry to assess training needs, develop training programs, and assist companies in maximizing efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness. She assumed her new position on June 17.
Melissa Gallagher, DeKalb, comes to Kishwaukee College from the Kishwaukee Family YMCA in Sycamore where she had been the Human Resources Director for the past four years. Prior to her position at the YMCA, she had been an Instructional Designer for Arthur Andersen, creating and implementing internal training for employees.
Gallagher holds a B.A. in Speech Communications from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.S.Ed. in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University.
Gallagher has been a member of the DeKalb County Human Resources Managers (DCAHRM), including having served as President of the organization. “While with DCAHRM, I was on campus at Kishwaukee College for various activities—speakers, workshops, meeting,” she explained. “I loved the energy on campus and in the Center. I am excited to be part of Kishwaukee College.”
As a former Human Resources manager, Gallagher brings experience with internal procedures and processes involved in creating and maintaining a well-trained, engaged and efficient staff. Her work with Arthur Andersen over the years, gives her insight into professional development needs and how best to craft training that is both cost and time efficient and that answers the needs of the company as well as the employees.
“I am excited to be back in professional development,” she said. “I love identifying training needs in companies and then meeting those needs.” As an active member of the Human Resources community in DeKalb County, Gallagher already has a solid working knowledge of business and industry in the area and personal contacts within many of those companies. She added, “I am also looking forward to making contacts in Rochelle – there is a lot of growth and energy in the community that I want to learn more about.”
Gallagher is spending the summer settling into her new role and building relationships both on campus and in the local communities. “I am looking forward to getting out into the communities to share the opportunities Kishwaukee College’s Center for Business Development and Continuing Education has available to area business.”
