ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- 274 homes were sold in September in the Rockford area, a 3.4% increase from August numbers.

Rockford Area Realtors CEO Steve Bois says the gain is promising, considering sales usually drop about 15% from August to September, when activity typically slows down. But rising foreclosures remain a concern.

"Foreclosed properties affect neighborhood values, they are good values for people who want to renovate, but its very important we reduce that inventory and people who are in the short sale situation we really need to help them work out of those situations."
