BYRON (WIFR) -- The Byron Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2013 scholarships. Nicholas Elsbury and Chloe Olson were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship at Byron High School Honors Night on May 15.
Nicholas Elsbury will be attending a private college in the fall, with plans to major in Education and eventually purse a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Nicholas plans to be extremely involved in extra-curricular activities at college, including being a member of the football team. He enjoys working with people, especially kids. He is excited to make a difference by promoting mathematics and athletics or health and wellness, nutrition, and overall body care, so individuals can live their lives to their fullest. Nicholas is a member of the National Honor Society with above a 4.0 and ranked 10th in his class. He is very active in the community of Byron, where his leadership abilities have been most recognized. Nicholas has over two hundred community service hours under his belt. He plans to continue working at the Byron Park District and at local farms this summer before heading off to college in the fall.
Chloe Olson will be attending the University of Tampa and will be majoring in Nursing. She has maintained a straight “A” average and is ranked 6th in her class. She has the special honor of being selected as the Daughters of American Revolution by her teachers. Chloe’s dream is to one day care for the medical needs of children with disabilities. She spent last summer volunteering in the Byron Park Therapeutic Camp which inspired her to apply for a summer job with the Rockford Park District as an assistant for the Therapeutic Day Camp for children with disabilities. Chloe completed the Medical Science Program and is eligible to take her C.N.A test in early July. In addition to working at the day camp, Chloe plans to make social visits to some of the students in her Peer Partners class and will continue to be a one-on-one respite worker for a student with disabilities this summer before heading off to college.
The Byron Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate both of these outstanding recipients, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. For further information about the Byron Chamber of Commerce, call (815) 234-5500 or visit us on the web at www.byronchamber.org
