In addition to awarding $4,000 in Scholarship funds, the school with the most student entries is awarded a $500 prize. Seth Whitman Elementary School in Belvidere won that distinction.
Blackhawk Bank offered an opportunity to win one of four $1,000 A Team Scholarships to all area kids (through Senior High) that earned grades of A+ / A / A- during the 2012/2013 academic year. After each grading period, students were encouraged to bring a copy of their report card to the Blackhawk Banking Center nearest their home to be entered into the contest.
“Blackhawk Bank offers this scholarship program to encourage academic excellence and give kids, parents and teachers a motivational boost,” said Dave Adkins, Executive VP Consumer Banking. “These four $1,000 scholarships aren’t just for the highest achievers; they’re rewards that every local student who earns an ‘A’ has a shot at.”
Winners of scholarship funds may choose a Blackhawk Bank Education IRA or a 529 Plan through the investment center located inside the Belvidere, Rockford Perryville and Downtown Beloit Banking Centers. The funds are designated for future expenses at an accredited technical school or college.
