A long-time member of the Rockford Airport Authority Board announces his resignation today. His plan now is to focus on another part of the Forest City.
Mike Dunn says his resignation is effective immediately so he can serve as the Chairman of the new Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment Authority or RAVE. Dunn was the board chairman for the last six years at RFD. He spent a total of eight years as an airport commissioner. He says he's proud to have been a part of the renewed belief in the airport, which lost passenger service back in 2001.
The resignation comes after Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey recommended Dunn to RAVE, which will oversee the Metrocentre, Coronado and Davis Park.
Mayor Morrissey has also selected John Phelps to the Authority Board. Both Dunn and Phelps were part of the original advisory committee. Developer Sunil Puri, Attorney Craig Thomas and banker Robert King have also been chosen.
Meantime Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen has picked business owners Bob Rhea and Kent Mallquist as well as bank executives Lori Burke and Tom Walsh. It's now up to the Winnebago County Board to fill Dunn's seat at the airport. Christiansen says he does have somebody in mind and it's likely the board will vote on that Thursday
