Rockford has some major improvements to make if it wants to become a stronger city at the end of this economic slump. This has been said by several local leaders and experts, and one of those experts says we must have a passenger rail service in our area to do just that.
Janyce Fadden says the rebuilding our local economy will be driven by regional transportation efforts. According to Fadden, some of the biggest and most crucial projects are of passenger rail service and expanding business 20 to an interstate. Those projects will have to be part of a regional effort, with several cities participating, not just Rockford alone. Fadden also adds, that landing Amtrak will be an important first step to get Rockford on the right track towards the future.
Lastly, if state lawmakers pass a capital plan this fall, we can expect to see passenger rail service in the area as early as 2011.
