There are three thousand homes for sale in the Rockford area, and with that much competition you better make sure your home stands out in all the right ways, if you want it to sell. Jon Krause, one of our local experts, reveals how to get your home sold quickly.

“People will make a decision whether they want the home from the first few seconds they walk through the front door.”

Jon Krause says buyers go through an average of ten homes before making a decision. First impressions of a property begin from the outside. If it its perfect, buyers may drive on by. Most buyers spend an average of 30 seconds at your front door before they step in. Welcome them with a nice entrance, including some fresh flowers. And once they do enter, Krause says its time to wow them. Open up the curtains, and make sure the windows are clean because all buyers like light. Also, your home must smell as clean as it looks and the big must is de-clutter.

“The way you sell your house is not the way you live in your house. You may have that comfy overstuffed chair that's perfectly positioned in front of the big screen to watch the big game or the news, and it unfortunately is not in the right place or not the right size and detracts from the home. So a lot of your personal affects, you are going to pack everything up anyway to move. Now is the time to get them out. Doesn't mean it has to be sparse but you want to make sure you don't clutter the house or distract people from what you are really trying to sell, which is the house not the furniture or the personal effects in the house.”

Another piece of advice Krause says is neutralize, especially when it comes to carpet and walls. Paint is one of the cheapest ways to spruce up your home.
