Economy Rockford: Doing the Unexpected

Landing a job these days is tough, especially with all the competition. And relying on the basics to find work simply won’t do. LoRayne Logan, a local expect, explains the new efforts it takes to find a job.

LoRayne Logan says there are hidden opportunities in this tough job market. Obviously, many employers are cautious about hiring, and others don’t want to be inundated with applicants who aren’t the right fit. But Logan says companies will hire if they meet the right person. So selling yourself will have to go beyond sending a traditional resume. Logan says successful job seekers look for more creative ways to market themselves.

“Companies are saying how one approaches their job search is how someone will be as an employee. So it is more important that ever to stand out and standing out means really making yourself more dedicated, more creative, more innovative, more industrious. All those things so people think wow this is a person I want on my team.”

Logan says one of the best thing job seekers can do is be social. You never know who you are going to meet or who a friend might know.
