Embry-Riddle: Rockford vs. Houston -- Media Coverage

Rockford (WIFR) -- Over the next week 23 News will take a head-to-head look at the two cities still alive to land Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's 3rd campus.

We start by looking at the Media coverage in each city. And when comparing the two cities on this issue, there's absolutely no comparison.

While Rockford media has been inundated with Embry-Riddle coverage. 23 News did a check of Douston's only daily newspaper, "The Chronicle" and found just one story over the last year even mentioning Embry-Riddle; and it had nothing to do with trying to lure a third campus.

A check of the websites at all 5 Houston TV news stations doesn't produce a single mention of Embry-Riddle's expansion plans.

This seems to support the idea that Embry-Riddle would have a greater impact coming to our city of 150,000 than it would going to the fourth largest city with a population of over 2.2 million.

Give me a break-this is SUCH a waste of airtime; report on something which has some substance. A school relocating to a major media market is not "local news" for a major city like it is for Rockford, therefore there is little to compare on this issue. Do you think major media in Chicago reports on every car break-in? Do you think Rockford reports on every shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart? Why would you think Houston media would report on a new school branch for a mere 300 students?
