Mt. Morris Printing Plant Safe from Closures

The Mt. Morris Quad/Graphics printing plant is not among the five plants the company is closing.

Quad/Graphics owns and operates 45 plants nationwide, including one in Mt Morris, but will be closing five of those plants early next year.

Quad/Graphics is moving the work for the clients at the closing plants to other plants. The Mt. Morris plant is equipped to handle the work from the closing plants, but the company is not disclosing which plants will get the work.

Mt. Morris village president Greg Unger said he is concerned that the business’ changes could affect local sales tax income if they don’t bring in more work. He said the village is “concerned, but not expecting devastation.”

Under said he doesn’t expect any substantial changes for the village if the company cuts staff because the village’s proximity to other employment options.

Thank goodness the Mount Morris Quad Graphics plant wasn't on the cutting block, but I really have to disagree with Mr. Unger about losing jobs in this very small community. Does he not understand that other businesses are affected when companies close or lay off workers? It can devastate the whole town and real estate values. You're not very business minded are you Mr. Unger.
