Update: Drowning Victim's Family Speaks Out

ROSCOE (WIFR) -- A lot of confusion for the family of a Roscoe man who drowned in the Rock River over the weekend. 23 News Reporter Meghan Dwyer has more on how an avid swimmer and outdoors man lost his life in the place he loved best.


UPDATE: Man found in the Rock River identified as 30 year old, Richard Leach.

Release taken from the Winnebago County Sheriff's department.


ROSCOE (WIFR)-- On Sunday July 22, 2012 at approximately 6:18a.m., police and fire units were sent to the area of 100 River St. in Roscoe, Illinois in regards to a body in the Rock River.

On arrival, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies and Roscoe Police Officers were directed to the river by a fisherman who advised that he had spotted the body in the river.

Fire Department personnel were able to recover the body.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office took charge of the body.

The individual has been identified and his name will be released by the Coroner once his family has been contacted. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing with the investigation.

At this time there is no indication of foul play.
