ROCKFORD (WIFR)-- In what some consider a controversial vote, Rockford's library board moves forward with a proposal to take over a vacant theater in the heart of the city.
The owner of the former Sullivan Theater on North Main Street wants to donate the building to the library although it would cost the organization about 85-thousand dollars to operate the first year.
Tonight's preliminary vote gives the board's attorney permission to draft an agreement with the center's owner before a final decision is made.
The facility would be leased out to arts programs. A study on the library was also presented to the board tonight. Trustees say they want to review the information before they make a decision.
