Brandon Wright's friends describe him as easy going, dedicated guy. Stunned by the grim news they received this morning, his family, friends and former teammates are ready to put an end to the violence in Rockford.
"He was just a great kid, he was very humble. He was a great teammate, his teammates loved him. And uh, he was just a lot of fun to be around. He was just a genuine kid from a good strong family”, says Mike Winters, Wright’s high school basketball coach.
A prayer walk was the idea that came to wright's friend Dan Petrie.
Starting Sunday afternoon at 12:30 in front of Rockford’s downtown library, those who knew Wright will march against violence in Rockford. Petrie says he feels there needs to be more action to keep the Forest City community safe, and tomorrow is just a start.
Petrie says, "The city needs prayer. With the tragedy that's been hitting the city, time and time and time again, young life after young life taken over senseless acts. I really think this is something where the community can come together, believers can come together and do our duty and that's pray over the city and individuals."
The idea for the walk comes less than 24 hours before the event is scheduled to begin. Petrie says he has received an overwhelming response for the walk and says anyone who wants to join the event is welcome.
