Rockford Aldermen Approve Fee Schedule

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Aldermen prevent dozens of layoffs by charging us more for some city services.

You may remember during the last meeting the council shot down a more than one and a half million dollar fee increase schedule. Monday aldermen approved the proposal but with some adjustments. According to the new plan liquor license and ambulance ride fees will stay the same however impound fees involving police will go up 400 dollars, garbage collection will now cost $15.50 and some businesses including bowling alleys and taxi companies will pay 3 percent more on some services annually

As of right now the city's finance department says the budget is in good shape. If the fee schedule wasn't approved ,30 city workers would have been laid off.

The position of alderman is a waste of taxpayer money. These people have little to no experience in the way of operating a profitable business, solving problems without crushing txpayers/spending additional money or a record of good solid decision making skills. We are here, right now due to the mindless decisions they have made over time without regard to anyone other than the little click they roll around in called lowly Rockford politicians. All are a bunch of sell outs and give no regard to how on earth anyone of our children/grandchildren will afford to live in this god forsaken hole of a city 20 years from now.

The people need to make changes. Every person I know in this city complains a lot and does nothing about it. Every person talks about moving but stays and does nothing. The city leaders are doing things like this because no one will stand up. Money is mishandled here daily. There are several things the city could do to save money. Until someone stands up and says enough things like the riverwalk and round-a-bouts will continue. Rockford had chances in the past for a major racetrack (Joliet), casino, and several other things that would have created revenue here. Instead the same people who complain about things now complained about making changes. Rockford needs to catch up and get with the times. They need a real citizen as mayor with a mind like the normal everyday people. Not someone with a selective interest in where tax dollars go.

I am sick and tired of paying more for LESS... my taxes keep going up and Rockford continues to decline. It looks like my best option is to move out of Rockford. I don't know how anyone will be able to afford to live in this dying crime ridden town..All of the businesses will close as jobs continue to decline. In the future it will be a ghost town. Don't fool yourselves people this town is DYING. Get out while you can because the city council and the mayor are not doing anything to save it from happening. Rockford is listed as the 36th worst crime rate in the entire US and the unemployment rate is the 17th highest in the nation and rising. Something different needs to be done!

What would the impound fees be if you are the victim of auto theft and the vehicle is recovered and impounded?

How do they think that we can afford the increase? What have they done with all of our taxes? They dont plow and salt the side streets..the street sweeper has only come around 1 in 4 yrs. But yet they have come up with tons of money for the river walk a turnabout and everyother useless thing. Why dont they do this.....have city hall open mon thru thrusday or tuesday thru fri to help cut back and ask everyone to take a pay cut. Im quite sure that they all make well above min wage. This also includes the mayor who we all call mayor more4me. when they cut out a day that city hall is open they can make it so that the water department has a pay by phone as should the sewer department. this way when they are closed we can still pay our bills. I cant wait to that we all can vote mayor more4me out.

pigs...that's all they are...PIGS!!! they have now joined Cherry Valley in the car theft racket. many people struggling with this dreadfull economy are faced with...feed the kids..or pay insurance premium. if you can't swing both, you could loose your car to an extortion racket. not that driving out of the rules is ok...TIMES ARE JUST BAD!!! then how can you afford 500 bucks to get your car back? YOUR car that got arrested! is this a big problem? hell yes...just look at the auction lot on sandy hollow rd...hundreds of "impounded" cars...being charged outragous fees just to sit there...raising the vehicle "bond" higher every day. it's just a racket. just to keep the good ol boys in their gov't. jobs. I didn't notice any spending cuts...thats SPENDING CUTS!
