ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Aldermen prevent dozens of layoffs by charging us more for some city services.
You may remember during the last meeting the council shot down a more than one and a half million dollar fee increase schedule. Monday aldermen approved the proposal but with some adjustments. According to the new plan liquor license and ambulance ride fees will stay the same however impound fees involving police will go up 400 dollars, garbage collection will now cost $15.50 and some businesses including bowling alleys and taxi companies will pay 3 percent more on some services annually
As of right now the city's finance department says the budget is in good shape. If the fee schedule wasn't approved ,30 city workers would have been laid off.
