ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Every second counts in an emergency. That's why OSF Healthcare System is updating its fleet of medical air ambulances.
OSF Aviation has four new helicopters. One of them will be stationed in Rockford. The new Lifeline helicopter is larger and allows the medical team to treat up to two patients while in the air.
The new choppers replace the current fleet, which is about 15-years-old. That means they are outfitted with new technology including a warning system that lets pilots know if they are too close to the ground and includes night vision goggles.
