WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Violent crime is one of the biggest issues we face here in Winnebago County and now it’s affecting our health, according to a new report just released by the Winnebago County Health Department.
According to the annual County Health Rankings, Winnebago County’s overall health rankings have improved with health outcomes moving to a ranking of 79 out of 102 counties, up from 82. Health risk factors also improved slightly from 101 to 97.
Among the county’s worst statistics, are drinking related car deaths, violent crimes, children in poverty and single parent households. However, things like access to good healthcare are helping to improve our overall health.
“Commute times means more where we do well and where we have more time with our family and exercise. We have a number of factors in our favor and we need to build on those factors,” said Public Health Director Mike Bacon.
Chronic diseases like obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes are also greatly affecting Winnebago County.
