Volunteer Training Offered at Northern Illinois Hospice

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Northern Illinois Hospice will offer volunteer training beginning with Orientation on Tuesday, April 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 4215 Newburg Road. Orientation is open to anyone interested in volunteering for the agency and focuses on the hospice philosophy and the range of volunteer opportunities.

Individuals wishing to become patient care volunteers will complete Orientation and continue training on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., April 22nd- June 3rd. Patient care volunteers offer companionship and support to hospice patients and their families. Visit schedules are based on the volunteer’s availability and patient and family needs. No experience is necessary. Patient care volunteer training includes topics such as listening/communication skills, patient care, family needs, legal and psychosocial aspects of dying, loss and grief, spirituality, and volunteer responsibilities. There is a $25 material fee.
