ROCKFORD (WIFR) – The deadline for signing up for Affordable Health Insurance Coverage is right around the corner. More than 40,000 people in Winnebago County need coverage.
While national sign up numbers may be disappointing, since November, counselors at the Winnebago County health department have helped complete more than 750 applications, including people who successfully picked a coverage plan and those who signed up for Medicaid. More than 1,000 households started their applications.
“Our numbers that we have over a thousand applications have been done, that's households. We're excited about that number in two months’ time that's a lot of households, but we don't know how many people just called the 800 number, we don't know how many people have just done it online because they didn't have any questions,” said Julianna Barker with the Health Department.
That’s still less than 30% of what Federal Authorities originally projected enrollment would be after two months. The Federal Government extended another deadline. You have until January 10th to make your first premium payment.
Barker says the official sign-up numbers for Winnebago County aren’t ready yet. If you want coverage by January 1st, you have to sign up by Monday. More than 7,000 people have signed up for coverage statewide.
