ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It’s being called a “glimmer of hope”. Today more than 200 people showed up to a local donor drive aimed at ending the Stateline’s blood shortage.
Within the first 10 minutes, plenty of people were lining up to give up their blood in Pecatonica at Saint John’s Lutheran Church. The Rock River Valley Blood Center is currently experiencing a shortage after many of their drives have been cancelled due to the frigid weather. Right now, they say all blood types are needed.
"I'm not sure specifically what we've lost by how much we've had to cancel, but I do know that with the supply being short, anything right now that we can get because we are definitely running low. So right now, we're trying to get as much as we can of all blood types," said donor recruiter Melinda Garrington.
If you would like to make a donation, you can find a drive location by visiting their website at RRVBC.org.
