Chicago Dentist Settles with Family for $1 Million

Posted: 07/18/2007 - CHICAGO (AP) -- The attorney for a Chicago dentist whose five-year-old patient died after a routine procedure says he hopes the $1 milllion settlement with the family brings closure to the tragedy. Diamond never woke up after a September 23rd procedure at Riba's storefront clinic to fill cavities and cap teeth. The Cook County medical examiner's office determined the kindergartner died from a lack of oxygen caused by anesthesia. In May, the state ruled that Riba's dental license should be suspended for at least 18 months. Riba is contesting that ruling.

Unwilling to cede the issue to Edwards, Obama spoke at a recreation center in the nation's capital. In a jab at his rival, Obama argued that combatting poverty was hardly new for him, a one-time community organizer in Chicago
