MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- 25 teenagers driving "drunk" in a field doesn't sound like the safest environment, but that's part of a summer camp underway.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department is hosting its second annual Youth Police Academy in Machesney Park. Today the academy learned the consequences of drunk driving by going through obstacles while driving golf carts wearing beer goggles.
The three day camp allows kids who are interested in joining law enforcement a behind the scenes look at the police station, jail and courthouse. Harlem High School Senior, Chase Elliott says the summer camp has helped him make up his mind about his future career.
"I'm Looking into being a DNR Officer myself and experience is experience when it comes down to a world when you need to know people. I sounded like a lot of fun and so far it has been, it hasn't been a disappointment," said Elliott.
Machesney Park plans on continuing this academy every summer and is open to any kids who are interested.
