Work on North Main & Auburn Street Roundabout Project Underway Soon

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Work is anticipated to begin the week of April 15th at the N. Main Street and Auburn Street intersection.

Message boards will be placed prior to construction beginning notifying motorists. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes during the project construction. Drivers are also reminded to obey work zone speed limits and to stay alert for worker, when driving through the construction zone.

On April 22nd, all lanes at the N. Main Street and Auburn Street intersection will be narrowed to a width of 11 feet. This will remain in effect until the project is completed. There will be no turns permitted at this intersection during this period. Message boards will be installed warning motorists of the narrowing travel lanes and no turns prior to work commencing.

The N. Main & Auburn Street Roundabout project consists of the conversion of the current traffic signals at the N. Main Street and Auburn Street intersection to a roundabout, lighting improvements, water main improvements, installation of new sidewalk, landscaping, and other various improvements. The project completion date is October 15, 2013 with ten additional working days allowed for the contractor to address punchlist and landscaping items.
