Woodstock Gas Station Mistakenly Sells Gas at a Penny Per Gallon

WOODSTOCK (AP) -- A few lucky customers at a Woodstock gas station filled their tanks up at a penny per gallon.

A shell gas station mistakenly sold the nearly-free fuel for about two hours Sunday night. As word spread, cars lined up and jostled for a fill-up.

Woodstock Police says authorities had to use an emergency shut-off to stop the sales before the gas station closed in order to reset the pumps to regular prices. Prior to that, cars were blocking traffic and lining up on the street just to reach the cheap gas.

Police says the station clerk working at the time wasn't aware of the glitch.

It wasn't clear much gas was sold.
