GREEN BAY (AP) -- Wisconsin veterans will soon be able to get driver's licenses and identification cards that recognize their military service.

The state veterans affairs and transportation departments announced that beginning Dec. 2, veterans will be able to get licenses and IDs with the word "VETERAN" marked in red.

The cards are meant to help veterans get access to discounts and other services available to them by providing proof of service.

Veterans' service will be noted only at their request. They will need to verify their eligibility with the Department of Veterans Affairs before applying for a new driver's license or ID card.
