CHICAGO (AP) -- A winter storm that is expected to produce a mix of rain and snow has prompted airlines to cancel more than 500 flights at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway international airports.

By late Tuesday afternoon, the airlines at O'Hare reported delays between 30-60 minutes on both inbound and outbound flights, and more than 330 flights were canceled.

Delays at Midway were 45 minutes or more, and airlines had canceled nearly 170 flights. The city's aviation department is urging travelers to check their airlines' website for flight status.

Forecasters expect the storm to leave behind three to six inches of snow and snarl the evening commute.

The National Weather Service says a mix of snow, rain and high winds would make already-slick roadways even more treacherous.
