Winnebago County Crime Commission Issues Report

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's high crime rate is becoming a problem for some people and one local group is taking responsibility to bring it down.

The Winnebago County Crime Commission presented its research about reducing the jail population to the Public Safety Committee on Wednesday.

As a part of its two year strategic plan to reduce Rockford's high crime rate the commission is conducting research and then presenting recommendations to the committee. Commission leaders believe nobody can be happy with the state of the situation.

The commission is also currently doing research on how to keep parolees out of prison, early education and keeping teens out of trouble.
