ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Three Wesley Willows employees receive some support in pursuing their dreams of furthering their nursing careers. The family of long-time resident LaVada Johnson is awarding $3,000 in educational scholarships in her memory.
LaVada’s husband Bill Johnson and daughter Lori Burke wanted to express their appreciation to the staff of Wesley Willows for the excellent care given to LaVada. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.
“During the last year of my mom's life we relied very heavily on the nursing staff of Wesley Willows to enable my mom and dad to stay together in their apartment,” said Burke. “They did such a great job – my parents were only separated for six days before mom passed away. Thank you just didn’t seem like enough. We wanted to express our gratitude and hopefully help three employees realize their dreams of becoming a nurse.”
The first scholarship will be awarded to Kaitlin Werle on Wednesday, March 6 at a reception in Willows Arbor at Wesley Willows. Kaitlin Werle is pursuing her Nursing Assistant Certification at Rock Valley College. Kaitlin has been employed in Dining Services at Wesley Willows since December 2010.
Bill and LaVada moved to a Wesley Willows home in 1993. Over the many years Bill and LaVada have been outstanding and supportive residents and volunteers at Wesley Willows. LaVada passed away on October 24, 2012.
