ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Dan Woloszyn, CEO of Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, has announced that Van Matre ranked number five in clinical quality for the third quarter of 2011 out of 97 HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals nationwide. This is the fifteenth time Van Matre has achieved a clinical ranking placing them in the top ten including the twelve quarters they have been ranked in the top five.

Woloszyn stated, “Our clinical ranking reflects our ability to provide excellent outcomes to patients suffering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injury, trauma, and neurological impairments. The fact that we have consistently ranked in the top ten of all HealthSouth rehabilitation hospitals is a testament to our ability to sustain high quality care to our patients to enable them to successfully return home.”

Each quarter, HealthSouth looks at all its inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and judges them on several performance measures including the gains patients made during inpatient rehab, the percentage of patients who were able to go home after inpatient rehab, and patient satisfaction scores. Below is an overview of how Van Matre performed for the third quarter of this year:

-Average length of stay per patient was 14 days.
-Patients’ functional improvement scores increased by 36 points from admission to discharge which exceeded the standard goal of 25 points.
-Patients made better functional improvements at Van Matre when compared to regional and national norm data inclusive of both HealthSouth and other rehabilitation hospitals across the nation.
-Eighty-eight percent of all Van Matre patients (not including those who were transferred to an acute care hospital) were able to go home at discharge.
-Ninety-eight percent of patients surveyed said they would recommend Van Matre to family and friends.
